Requirements

As a result of our steady growth plans, we are looking for a passionate Junior Backend Engineer to join our wider Software Development team! You'll be working as part of a cross-functional squad within an Agile environment, collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver first-class products and features on our Student Beans app! You'll be responsible for delivering brands like Asos, Gymshark, Samsung and more to students across the country.



Key Responsibilities


On a day to day, you will be responsible for:


    • Engaging in backend development for our dynamic B2B SaaS product, Verification Tech, and its website.
    • Participating in squad stand-ups and ceremonies while delivering outstanding results in an Agile environment that thrives on 2-week sprints.
    • Collaborating with a diverse, cross-functional squad and actively communicating with various stakeholders.
    • Contributing to team-wide code reviews to enhance code quality.
    • Writing thorough tests to ensure robustness and reliability of all outgoing code.
    • Identifying and raising any errors, issues, or concerns to the wider Guild, while also introducing innovative ideas!
    • Fostering open and proactive communication within the squad, approaching challenges with enthusiasm and positivity.
    • Prioritising your workload effectively, aligning with both broader business objectives and your squad's specific goals.


About You


We would love to hear from you if you have experience in the following:


    • Proven expertise in Ruby on Rails
    • Familiarity with unit testing methodologies
    • A strong enthusiasm for Ruby/Ruby on Rails and backend development, with a keen interest in exploring the latest technologies
    • A collaborative mindset, thriving in a cross-functional squad within an Agile framework
    • While experience with MySQL or NoSQL is a plus, it's not a requirement
    • Capable of effectively communicating with non-technical team members about backend technologies and insights
